I also have various other systems, such as a fairly complete C=64 system,
a fairly complete Atari 800XL system, a ColecoVision (with Atari 2600 adapter
module, among other things), and many other things that would, put together,
make this page prohibitively large (more so than it already is).
- Other fun stuff
- Power filtration
- APC 800RT
- One of my prouder moments came when a friend of mine found this thing
in pieces at a HamFest and decided to buy it and several other UPS units.
I chose this one out of the lot, because it had a very clean waveform and
seemed to be a well-built unit. Boy was I right. After a little tweaking,
some new batteries (APC has confirmed the batteries in it to be larger than
the originals), and some minor additions (a new case, some patchwork to the
12 volt systems to allow a fan to be added, &c), this thing powered up
and ran flawlessly. It has since saved me hours of work (the power around
here stinks). I'd like to be able to afford to upgrade to a really good one
from APC, but I get about an hour runtime out of this one with my current
configuration and to do that with one of their current line, I would need
one of APC's Matrix UPS line... [This unit is now being used by one of my
friends, since I upgraded to a Smart-UPS 2000.]
- APC SmartUPS 2000
- Another UPS, this time higher capacity, but still good run time. Also
a Smart-UPS from APC, so this one offers better monitoring and shutdown
options.
- APC SmartUPS 1000XL
- Another UPS, more modern than the above ones, this can even communicate
with the MasterSwitch Plus to have several systems start up and shut down
in a sensible manner, rather than everything having to go down at once.
- APC MasterSwitch Plus (or is it Share-UPS Plus, or Galactica?)
- This gadget, attached to the SmartUPS 1000XL, allows me to shut down
less critical stuff first during a blackout, keeping more critical equipment
up as long as the battery on the UPS allows, and then restarting things in
an order which allows most reliable startups. Really cool device when you
have multiple servers and other stuff attached to a single UPS!
- Printers
- DECLaser 5100
- Another of the great things I have is a Digital DECLaser 5100 printer.
It's an 8PPM 600DPI laser printer with PostScript level 2 and gobs of fonts
in ROM (and I have it running 66MB of RAM right now, simply because it
seemed like a good thing to do at the time). Great printer, and the price
was quite reasonable. My only complaints are that the hard disc port is not
SCSI, so I have to buy the stupid disc from Digital instead of using an old,
say 100MB, SCSI drive on it and that the diffusion fill routine has little
knots in its results.
